Camp and Explore With us at the Houser Geode Beds (11/15/24 - 11/16/24)
The Houser Geode beds and the surrounding area are world renowned for geodes and other precious gems and minerals.
Bring your families and camp with us on BLM land and explore, dig and find geodes, thunder eggs, agates and more!
Friday- Saturday
Come when you want, leave when you want. We are planning on being there from Friday and leaving to come home Saturday night.
Location:
Take I-10 East to Exit 222 (Wiley’s Well Rd.)
Exit 222 - Wiley’s Well Road - Turn Right.
Head south towards the State Prison and keep left onto the dirt road and keep heading south.
The road from this point consists of graded dirt and unless it is raining, or it has rained recently, it should be passable for all types of vehicles. If the road has not been graded within the previous two or three weeks, it is likely to be seriously wash-boarded.
Dry Camping:
Location : 33.42891° N, 114.90842° W - See Pic below.
There are no services here - no water, no electricity, no bathrooms.
Coon Hollow Camp Ground:
Location : 33°26.737' N and 114°53.696' W
This is a dedicated BLM campground that will cost $40 per site and you can stay for 2 weeks.
The only services are non-potable water, pit toilets and a picnic table.
It is a first come, first serve campground. As this is a popular time of year, all sights may be full.
Vehicle:
High clearance vehicle is not required to get to the camping locations or some of the Geode locations. But a medium clearance vehicle (SUV, Subaru, etc..) would be preferred.
- If you have a low clearance vehicle like a civic, etc… you can get to the camping sites and then ride with someone who has a higher clearance vehicle out to some of the spots.
What to bring:
1. Normal camping stuff: Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, food, etc
2. Water - It is dry out there and you will need water. Bring at lease 1 gallon of water per person per day.
3. Bring shovels, picks, and a hammer. If you want to dig for geodes you will need to bring tools to dig out the Geodes!!!
4. Other necessities: Fist aid kit, hat, sunscreen, and chair.
Be aware:
- There is very little cell phone service
- Be aware of snakes and other desert creatures.
- Bring Water!
